A Change for Children
If we work or volunteer with children and young people, we want to make sure that those children have everything they need to grow, develop and achieve their potential. Although we would wish this for all children and young people, unfortunately  we know that this is not the case.
As you may know, the Government have an agenda called ‘Every Child Matters: Change for Children’ . The overall aim of this is for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to:

• Be healthy
• Stay safe
• Enjoy and achieve
• Make a positive contribution
• Achieve economic well-being

We all have a part to play in this
It is not just the job of the government, schools, parents etc to work towards these aims. If we work or volunteer with children and young people, this should be part of our everyday work. We should be commited to provide safe and nurturing environments for our children and young people.
The Children and Young People’s Groups Development Team at Wigan and Leigh CVS are committed to ensuring the voluntary groups we work with are kept up-to-date with the current issues.

• Change for Children in Wigan, including Common Assessment Framework, Contact Point, Help 4 Me
• Safeguarding children and young people
• Working with other agencies
• The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge for all those working with children and young people

We are also here to provide further support for you around these issues, whether this is through information sessions or just one-to-one discussions.
