CVS Launches New Grant Programme!

Wigan & Leigh Council for Voluntary Service’s Health and Social Care Project has secured funding through Communities for Health to deliver a small grant programme for voluntary organisations operating in Wigan Borough. The grant is for projects that improve people’s health and address health inequalities.

Projects should focus on the Communities for Health priorities for tackling health inequalities (www.dh.gov.uk):

  • reducing smoking
  • tackling obesity
  • improving sexual health
  • improving mental health
  • encouraging sensible drinking

and should contribute towards the Local Area Agreement Healthier Communities and Older People’s priorities (www.wigan.gov.uk):

  • Improve access to sustainable transport, social independence and reduce traffic congestion (NI167)
  • Reduce early deaths and disability due to coronary heart disease, stroke and cancer (NI120)
  • Safeguarding, respect and dignity for vulnerable adults (NI127)
  • Provide care closer to home for people with long term conditions (NI124)
  • Reduce social exclusion for older people and other vulnerable adults (NI138)
  • Increase people’s and community’s perception of control over own lives or where they live (NI7)

Grants up to £3000 are available and the deadline for receipt of applications is 4pm on Friday 12 February 2010. Organisations must have a bank account, a management committee and a constitution. Organisations will need to demonstrate how their project will have health benefits that last longer than the duration of the grant.

Application forms and full guidelines can be downloaded below and should be returned to
