The CVS Training and Development Project is Funded through the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.  We deliver a wide range of different courses across the borough.  Many of our courses are accredited at Level 2 and you can combine some of these into a Level 2 Personal Development Qualification if you choose.  We offer courses FREE to anyone living in a Coalfields area.  For the full list of eligible areas and access our current training calendar, click on our training section. 

Wigan and Leigh Council for Voluntary Service secured five years funding from the Big Lottery Fund to manage and deliver a Health and Social Care project.  Building and Sustaining Infrastructure Services (BASIS) is the first Big Lottery Fund programme to focus solely on developing voluntary and community sector infrastructure. The scheme aims to fund a more expert, consistently available and sustainable set of support services for front line voluntary and community organisations across England.

The project aims to develop and co-ordinate a strategic approach for the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) in health and social care policy, strategy and delivery and aims to develop the capacity of the VCS organisations so they can engage in health and social care commissioning processes.  

To achieve these aims the project plans to:-

• Establish and support a strategic VCS Health and Social Care Forum
• Raise the profile of the VCS in health and social care related matters and increase the role of the VCS in relation to policy and strategic development on health and social care issues
• Collate evidence of health and social care related VCS activity and market the contribution VCS organisations make to the health economy
• Identify gaps in service and provision and co-ordinate a strategic approach to develop appropriate projects
• Provide capacity building to Health and Social Care VCS organisations and co-ordinate training and support to VCS on business support and commissioning
• Work alongside commissioning bodies to produce an agreed set of Quality Standards whereby VCS organisations can demonstrate that they have the capacity to manage and deliver commissioned work
