Job Title: Development Worker (Children & Young Peoples’ Groups)

36¼ hours per week
SO1 (£24,545)
Fixed term contract until March 2009. (Funding is actively being sought to continue after this date.)

We are looking for a person to work with voluntary and community groups that provide a service to 0 -16 year olds. You will give support on setting up a group, funding, employment law and other issues affecting voluntary groups working with children and young people. The person appointed would also be expected to represent and link these groups at a local and regional level. This post is funded by Wigan Children’s Fund.

Closing date: 4.00p.m.on 30th May 2008. Interviews: Week beginning 9th June 2008.

Background Information

With funding from Wigan Children’s Fund, Wigan and Leigh CVS developed the Children and Young People’s Programme.

Programme Outline

There are a small team of development workers providing guidance and support to voluntary and community groups across the borough of Wigan working with children and young people. This includes giving information on setting up a new group, providing funding information and help in applications, information on employment, charity law and a variety of other issues affecting voluntary and community groups. Developments workers also design and deliver training and other workshops, as well as network opportunities for groups.

Where a specific need is identified either by members of the local community or another agency the team are proactive in setting up new organisations or helping existing ones to develop.

The development workers promote the work of the sector to partner agencies and act as voluntary sector representatives at a local and regional level.

The team are managed by Wigan & Leigh CVS but work closely with other agencies including Wigan Council Children and Young People’s Services, (including Wigan Children’s Fund) Leisure and Culture Trust and Wigan Council for Voluntary Youth Service.

Terms

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2009, funding beyond this period is being actively sought.

Salary Scale – SO1 Point 30 £24,545.

Hours 36¼ per week. To include evening and weekend work as required, time off in lieu given

Pension: 6% non contributory pension scheme

Holidays: 30 days per annum plus public holidays
