Volunteering Into Work

Our project is growing and we are looking forward to adding the Mentor Support service to the training and support already on offer.  We aim to offer high quality training and opportunities to volunteers and so, in partnership with CVS Training and Development Project we are offering a free accredited training course ‘Participating in the Community’.  This follows on from the Volunteers Initial Training Day and the training of Volunteer Managers with our vinvolved colleagues.
We also have scores of exciting volunteering opportunities within the Borough which Pauline can help you search and if you are an organisation with volunteering opportunities please contact Dermot at CVS.

Volunteering Strategy for Wigan Borough

We are leading on this with the Volunteer Strategy Working Group.  The aim of the strategy is:

    1. To inspire people to volunteer.
    2. To ensure an excellent volunteering experience.
    3. To establish a co-ordinated identity for volunteering in the Borough.

The Priorities of the Volunteering Strategy are:
a) The active and positive promotion of Volunteering throughout the Borough.
b) The development of new and existing opportunities where volunteers are valued and their skills recognised and developed.
c)The appropriate reward and recognition of volunteers in order to retain them and develop sustainability in the sector.

    1. The removal of barriers such as childcare, expense and language to ensure volunteering is accessible to all in the community.
    2. The measurement of the value of volunteering to individuals (including their health), the Borough and to organisations.

We are forming Working Parties on each of the Priorities and would welcome members of each or contributions to the debate.  Please contact Dermot if you can help
